Expandable polystyrene foam is a rigid closed cell/cellular plastic resin made from petrochemicals derived from crude oil. The resin is incorporated with the blowing agent pentane. During the pre-expansion, steam softens the plastic resin causing the pentane to expand the plastic into beads at least 50 times their original size.
Large volumes of EPS are available in molded foam & small quantity can be fabricated.
There are two principle applications for this material:

• Insulation :- Excellent insulating properties at a low cost compared to fiberglass and other common insulating materials.


• Packaging :- Very useful for packaging where items are not extremely fragile, as it offers good cushioning at a comparatively low cost.
